Nutrient Profile 營養資料:

Dogs do not usually have issues in digesting fat, but in certain health conditions, a low fat diet is necessary to guarantee the health and well-being of the dogs, since instead a high-fat content would cause symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. The conditions that require a low-fat diet are pancreatitis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, gastritis, hyperlipidemia, and lymphangiectasia. This is because the pancreas, as well as the stomach and the gut, can be negatively influenced by a high amount of fat coming from the food.

The pancreas produces and stores inactive enzymes that should only be activated when they enter the small intestine, where they are responsible for breaking down the food to allow for its absorption. Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreatic cells that produce such enzymes, and it can be acute or chronic. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is instead the condition where the pancreas is no longer working and therefore, there is no production of digestive enzymes anymore. These are potentially fatal conditions unfortunately quite common in dogs, due to many different factors including eating too many processed foods and rancid fats; they are also linked to obesity.

The ideal nutritional management for pancreatitis is a fresh, balanced low-fat diet, since the more processed and high fat the food is, the more it can lead to a worsening of the symptoms.

Additionally, the same diet also represents the best solution for dogs who suffer from hyperlipidemia (high tryglycerides and cholesterol), as well as lymphangiectasia, a digestive disorder of the gut characterized by abnormally enlarged lymph vessel, which can cause severe malabsorption issues that can be solved with a low fat diet. Finally, a low-fat diet is extremely beneficial for dogs who suffer from gastritis and gastric reflux as well.
