Ten years. That’s a decade of meal plans, wagging tails, and thousands of names we’ve whispered, called out at the park, and printed on delivery boxes. To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we did what any data-curious fresh dog food brand would do — we went through our own records and counted every single dog name in Hong Kong’s most food-spoiled pack: ours.
The result? The most complete picture of Hong Kong dog names ever published by a local brand — a love letter to the city’s dogs, written in their own names.
About this Hong Kong dog name survey
2,002 dog names analysed
One important note before the rankings: we merged names that are clearly the same name written two ways — because in Hong Kong, a dog can be 毛毛 at home and Momo at the vet. The merges: 毛毛 = Momo, 啤啤 = Bear Bear, 妹妹 = Mui Mui. Ties are listed alphabetically.

*Estimated by applying each name’s share of our sample to Hong Kong’s total dog population of approximately 280,000 (Legislative Council Secretariat Research Office, September 2025). Figures are rounded.
Add it up and the Top 20 names cover roughly 13% of all dogs in Hong Kong — about 37,000 dogs, or 1 in every 11. Call “Momo” at a dog park and, statistically, at least one pup will come running.
What Hong Kong’s favourite dog names tell us
Hong Kong is bilingual — and so are its dogs
All three podium names are one name in two languages: Momo/毛毛, Bear Bear/啤啤, Mui Mui/妹妹. Hong Kong owners don’t choose between English and Cantonese dog names; they use both, often for the same dog. Looking for dog name ideas that feel local? The formula: pick a meaning, then say it twice, in two languages.
Food names are a love language
Mocha, Mochi, 蕃薯 (sweet potato), and 奶茶 (milk tea, #21, just outside the Top 20). We name our dogs after the things that make us happy — then feed them fresh food to keep them happy.
Classics never die
小白 — literally “Little White” — has been naming Hong Kong’s dogs for generations, and it still holds #4. Simple, descriptive, immortal.
Dogs are family, not pets
BB (“baby”), 妹妹 (“little sister”), 懶訓豬 (“sleepy pig”). These aren’t pet names; they’re family titles — a reminder of why Hong Kongers invest so much in quality food and care.
How accurate is this survey?
We’d rather over-disclose than over-claim. This survey covers about 0.7% of Hong Kong’s dogs — roughly 1 in 140 — drawn from Dogalicious subscribers rather than a random sample of the city. The sample leans toward urban, highly engaged owners who feed fresh food, and almost certainly over-represents small breeds. Statistically, 2,002 dogs is a poll-grade sample (95% confidence, ±2.2% margin of error) — but precision isn’t the same as representativeness. Treat this as a portrait of Hong Kong’s fresh-food dog community: vivid, real, and biased in the ways love is biased.
