4.9 · Google In stock

Steady-energy chicken nutrition for diabetic dogs. A high-protein, high-fibre fresh recipe crafted to help diabetic dogs maintain steadier blood sugar. Lean chicken breast leads, paired with slow-release barley and oats plus a generous dose of psyllium fibre to help blunt post-meal glucose spikes - satisfying, wholesome and gently cooked.

  • Controlled carbohydrate, no added sugars - Limits the after-meal glucose rise, with no rapidly absorbed simple sugars.
  • Low-GI pea & barley - A slower-releasing starch combination linked in dogs to better glycaemic control.
  • Soluble + insoluble fibre - Oat fibre and psyllium slow absorption, smooth blood-sugar spikes and support stool quality.
  • High-quality lean protein - Lean chicken breast supports glycaemic control and lean muscle.
  • Moderate fat - Suits diabetes that coexists with raised blood lipids or pancreatitis risk.
  • Omega-3 enriched - For skin, coat and metabolic health.
  • Complete & balanced - Balanced Ca:P and complete micronutrients, gently cooked fresh to AAFCO/FEDIAF adult standards.

About this diet

Diabetes mellitus in dogs is usually insulin-dependent: the pancreas no longer makes enough insulin, so glucose builds up in the blood instead of entering the cells. It is managed with insulin, but diet does much of the work in keeping blood glucose stable - and consistency matters as much as composition: the same food, in the same amount, at the same times each day.

Nutritionally the aims are to blunt the rise in blood glucose after a meal, keep the dog at a healthy weight, and avoid the rapidly absorbed carbohydrates that cause sharp spikes. This recipe uses no added simple sugars and controls total carbohydrate, drawing its starch from barley and peas - a slower-releasing pea-and-barley combination that canine studies have specifically linked to better glycaemic control.

Fibre does two jobs, so both types are included: oat fibre provides the principal insoluble fraction while psyllium adds gel-forming soluble fibre, together slowing nutrient absorption, moderating the post-meal glucose rise and supporting consistent stools. Protein is kept high from lean chicken breast to support glycaemic control and protect lean muscle, with green beans and zucchini adding volume without a large carbohydrate load.

Fat is kept moderate, which helps control calories and suits the fact that diabetes often travels with raised blood lipids or a pancreatitis risk, and added omega-3 supports skin, coat and metabolic health. Never change a diabetic dog's diet without telling your vet: switching food changes the glucose response and the insulin dose usually needs reviewing alongside it. Keep meal times and portions consistent from day to day.

FAQ

This is a therapeutic recipe formulated for dogs with diabetes mellitus. Nutrient levels are deliberately adjusted for that condition, so it is best started and monitored under veterinary guidance.

It is a complete daily meal, not a topper. The recipe is complete and balanced to AAFCO/FEDIAF adult-maintenance standards and can be fed as your dog’s main diet.

Transition gradually over 7–10 days: start with about a quarter new food mixed into the old, then increase the proportion every 2–3 days until fully switched. Go slower for dogs with sensitive digestion.

Use the feeding guide on this page, which is based on your dog’s ideal body weight rather than current weight. Actual needs vary with age, activity and disease stage, so adjust to maintain condition and review with your vet.

It ships frozen. Keep it in the freezer on arrival, move a pack to the fridge the night before feeding, and use within 3 days once thawed.

Our food is made with natural, whole ingredients, so appearance and texture vary slightly between batches - meat, vegetables and fruit change with the season and the harvest. Every batch is made to the same recipe and nutritional standard and passes the same quality checks, so the nutrition your dog receives stays the same.
