About this diet

Several quite different conditions share one dietary requirement: fat has to come down, and stay down. Pancreatitis is the best known, but the same applies to hyperlipidaemia (high triglycerides and cholesterol), lymphangiectasia and some forms of gastritis. In dogs, pancreatitis is frequently triggered or worsened by dietary fat, and it can appear as a sudden, painful acute episode or settle into a low-grade chronic form.

The difficulty is that fat is where much of a dog's energy and palatability normally comes from. Strip it out carelessly and you end up with food that is either nutritionally incomplete or that dogs simply refuse to eat - and for a dog that has already had an episode, merely "moderate" fat is often not low enough. This recipe keeps fat genuinely low - around 20 grams per 1000 kcal - while still meeting the requirement for linoleic acid, which dogs cannot make themselves, and supplying beneficial EPA and DHA from a small, measured amount of sardines.

Protein comes from lean turkey breast and egg white, chosen for high quality with minimal accompanying fat. The carbohydrates are chosen for digestibility rather than bulk: quinoa and sweet potato are gently cooked so a compromised digestive system has as little work to do as possible.

Green beans, carrot and zucchini add fibre and food volume at a low energy density, keeping meals satisfying despite the fat restriction, while blueberries contribute antioxidants that help counter inflammation. Because pancreatitis can be serious and its management is individual, always start this diet with your vet, and reintroduce fat only on their advice.

FAQ

This is a therapeutic recipe formulated for dogs with pancreatitis or fat intolerance. Nutrient levels are deliberately adjusted for that condition, so it is best started and monitored under veterinary guidance.

It is a complete daily meal, not a topper. The recipe is complete and balanced to AAFCO/FEDIAF adult-maintenance standards and can be fed as your dog’s main diet.

Transition gradually over 7–10 days: start with about a quarter new food mixed into the old, then increase the proportion every 2–3 days until fully switched. Go slower for dogs with sensitive digestion.

Use the feeding guide on this page, which is based on your dog’s ideal body weight rather than current weight. Actual needs vary with age, activity and disease stage, so adjust to maintain condition and review with your vet.

It ships frozen. Keep it in the freezer on arrival, move a pack to the fridge the night before feeding, and use within 3 days once thawed.

Our food is made with natural, whole ingredients, so appearance and texture vary slightly between batches - meat, vegetables and fruit change with the season and the harvest. Every batch is made to the same recipe and nutritional standard and passes the same quality checks, so the nutrition your dog receives stays the same.
